Jennifer received her Bachelor of Science from Miami University of Ohio, cum laude, and received her Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University College of Law where her academic honors included: Law Journal, Moot Court, Public Service Fellow, Judicial Externship as well as studying abroad at The University of Oxford-Ohio State University Comparative Law program.

JUDGE JENNIFER D. TOWELL started her legal career serving in the United States Navy as a JAGC Lieutenant in the Washington, D.C. Navy Yard Naval Legal Services Office where she represented Sailors and Marines in Courts-Martial and administrative due process hearings across the Northeastern Region of the United States. While serving as a JAGC officer, Jennifer was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and a Navy Pistol Sharpshooter Ribbon.
Judge Towell also worked as the Director of E-Discovery affairs for Applied Discovery, a division of LexisNexis. In this role, she developed regional strategic initiatives in order to maximize corporate, law firm and government organization partnerships and industry relationships across the United States.Prior to joining Applied Discovery, she was an attorney with Brouse McDowell in Akron, Ohio where she specialized in litigation at the trial and appellate level focusing on complex litigation, insurance recovery actions, product liability actions, and class action defense.
Judge Towell worked as a Magistrate from 2019-2022 at the Akron Municipal Court where she presided over eviction hearings, small claims hearings, escrow, show cause orders, mandatory orders, garnishments, and revivor hearings. She also presided over criminal arraignments and traffic court. She served as an Advisory Board member of the Connect Program with Judge Ron Cable, which is geared toward individuals with autism, Down syndrome, communication disorders, and other developmental disabilities. She provided trainings on Landlord-Tenant Law in Ohio, was an active participant in “Have Gavel, Will Travel” and presented to Girl Scout Troops across Northeast Ohio.

As a criminal defense attorney in the Navy, I have a unique perspective that helps insure the rights of all parties are preserved. Working as a civil litigation attorney at Brouse McDowell and as an E-Discovery Director for LexisNexis, I have an extensive background in the complexities involved in civil litigation.
Serving as a Magistrate helped form my judicial temperament and also helped me learn how to manage an extensive docket.
