Question 1

List your judicial experience (courts and years)

None

Abbreviated Candidate Answers

None

Question 2

What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?

I spend each day of my job as the city prosecutor dealing with family court issues. Cases in municipal court are often intertwined with cases in family court. Domestic violence cases often involve a pending divorce or dissolution. Endangering Children cases always involve the Department of Job and Family Services and often also involve a formal abuse, dependency, or neglect filing in family court. Throughout my time as a prosecutor, I’ve talked with countless case workers and guardian’s ad litem about what would be in a child’s best interest. I consider myself more than qualified to make such decisions.

Question 3

Why are you running for this particular court seat?

I am running for Stark County Family Court Judge after witnessing a sharp increase in juvenile violence in recent years. My office repeatedly deals with juvenile issues. While we ultimately do not prosecute juvenile crimes, my office prepares the search warrants to enter their homes and their phones. We review gang cases and homicide cases in which juveniles are victims or suspects. I receive updates daily from Canton Police’s Real Time Crime Center, which almost always concerns juveniles. I see adults, who have only recently turned 18, commit violent crimes where they are still on probation in family court or where they have previously received diversion in family court. Stark County Family Court serves children and families - with the goal that all children and families are protected and supported. I have made the choice to run for Stark County Family Court Judge so that I can be part of the solution for the juvenile violence in our community.
