What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?
My 14-years of legal experience make me uniquely prepared to take the bench. I have practiced in municipal, county and federal court levels and worked on civil and criminal cases. I also have judicial experience as a magistrate. As former Assistant Cuyahoga County Prosecutor, my team and I helped secure over $17.6 million in domestic support obligations for families and children. I received an honorable mention for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office Child Support Unit Mission, Vision and Core Values Award. While working for the Garfield Heights Law Department, I gained significant criminal experience as well as providing legal advice to the administration on constitutional and employment issues. During law school, I worked for Ritzler, Coughlin & Swansinger Ltd. and worked on civil litigation cases regarding insurance defense which includes cases filed in the General Division.
I believe that for the legal system to function best, it must be accessible and understood by everyday people, especially those who are directly impacted. Having made presentations to the general public on what various levels of courts do, it is apparent that most people are overwhelmed by the court system. As the daughter of educators and former substitute teacher myself, I use my skills and experience to educate the public and other attorneys through presentations, teaching Continuing Legal Education courses (CLEs) and publishing articles to help attorneys improve their practice. Every day as a magistrate, I make sure that all the parties in my cases understand the process, the relevant laws, and the reasoning behind my rulings. If elected as a judge, I will make the court system more approachable and accessible to the general public.

I want to make a difference in people's lives. My parents instilled in me a commitment to public service. Both educators, I witnessed the care and commitment they had for students from challenging backgrounds. They taught my sister and me that we should work for something bigger than ourselves. Today, she’s a social worker, and I’ve been working to make a difference through my volunteer work with nonprofits and in my legal career.
My parents grew up in challenging circumstances and I often reflect that many of the people who find themselves coming before me probably grew up similarly. That is why I am so passionate about making the legal system being fair, accessible, and transparent – while still working to hold wrongdoers accountable. That is why I am running for a seat on the Court of Common Pleas General Division.
I have used my role as magistrate to implement innovative practices to help defendants address outstanding support enforcement warrants in a way that alleviates the stress off the legal system and allows defendants to move on with their lives. I have enacted smart, common sense courtroom practices that both promote stability and justice.
