Question 1
List your judicial experience (courts and years)
Judge, Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas, 5 years (current seat)
Question 2
What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?
At the City of Cincinnati I worked as a civil litigator, general counsel attorney, and as lead attorney for the City as the Interim City Solicitor. During my career, I have handled trials throughout the State of Ohio, and appeals in the First, Tenth, Twelfth District Courts of Appeals, and the Ohio Supreme Court. In federal proceedings I have handled trials at the District Court in Cincinnati, and appeals in the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. I have been the lead attorney in jury trials as varied as medical malpractice, employment law, eminent domain, and various municipal law cases. As a City lawyer, I was the chief trial counsel managing the litigation section of the City law department. I began my career in private practice defending individuals in professional liability cases.
As an attorney in both private practice and in public sector law I have endeavored to achieve the best result possible while being mindful of the need for efficient management of public resources.
Question 3
Why are you running for this particular court seat?
The Common Pleas court produces a significant percentage of the appeals that go to the First District Court. If elected, I will be the only judge on our court of appeals with common pleas experience. That experience includes both civil and criminal trial work, and a unique insight into the day to day operation of court process at the trial level.
My goals on the First District include:
1) prioritizing the protection of civil rights in Hamilton County;
2) centering attention on fair sentencing in criminal cases;
3) increasing the efficient administration of justice in Hamilton County.
As a City lawyer and a trial judge, I have seen the importance of both experience and willingness to try new ideas to achieve better results for people seeking justice in our Courthouse. If elected to the First District, I hope to continue to use my experience to seek justice in Hamilton County.
