Question 1
List your judicial experience (courts and years)
None
Question 2
What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?
I'm a litigator, business owner, and advocate. I've prosecuted juvenile delinquency and unruly cases. I've represented both the state and parents in Children Services proceedings. I've defended the accused. I have handled nearly every type of probate case under Ohio law. I have a proven track record of protecting elderly and disabled individuals from abuse, exploitation, and neglect through both Adult Protective Services and guardianship work. I have practiced in 24 counties throughout Ohio and in both Northern and Southern District of Ohio Federal Courts.
I bring these skills plus my years of business and public management to the table, combined with a continuous curiosity and passion for lifelong learning.
Question 3
Why are you running for this particular court seat?
The Court must do a better job at keeping records. The Ohio State Auditor has found "significant deficiencies" in the Court's accounting practices for six years in a row (2017 through the most recent 2022 audit). Additionally, annual reports to the Shelby City Council and the County Commissioners were not timely filed for the years covering 2017-2021 (5 years of past-due reports were filed in 2023) and unclaimed funds have not been accounted for in a timely manner.
My experience in both business and finance will ensure we make the right moves to fix the administrative issues. My experience practicing in 24 counties throughout Ohio as well as in both the Northern and Southern District Federal Courts will ensure the effective administration of justice in Shelby Municipal Court.
The Judge is responsible for all operations of the Court from courtroom to probation to clerk's office. Fully and finally resolving the ongoing audit issues will be my priority from day one.
