Judge - Lorain County Domestic Relations Court - Education
Growing up/Hometown/High School/College:
I’m a Lorain home-town girl. I grew up in South Lorain where I was born and raised. My mother, Mary Glass, raised my sister Cathy and I with the help of my grandmother, Liz Morrissey, and our extended family the Apontes. We lived across the street from Primo’s Restaurant between East 30th and 31st and could always be found with the neighborhood kids (the Medina, Candelario, Vansant, Visalden, Ortiz, Pagan/Carrion, Mendez, Barrios, Rosa families) or at Oakwood Park. I attended Lowell Elementary School, Whittier Junior High, and graduated 3rd in my class from Southview High School in 1991. This is where I learned more about acceptance and hard work than I could have ever learned anywhere else. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree (Psychology) in 1995 from Ohio University where I also had my son, Dennis, by my side. After receiving my bachelor’s degree, I attended Cleveland Marshall College of Law and received my Juris Doctorate in 1998. - Work Experience
I am currently a Lorain County Domeatic Relations Judge and have been so since 2017. Prior to my judgeship, I was hired in 1997 by former Prosecutor Greg White as an assistant county prosecutor. During the first 8 years of my career, I worked up the ranks in the office from handling child support enforcement cases, children services cases, to prosecuting juvenile delinquency matters. During that time I held the position of Attorney for the Lorain County Child Support Enforcement Agency and prosecuted child support contempt cases and also Attorney for Lorain County Children Services handling family matters, custody issues, and more specifically, abuse, neglect, and dependency cases. I was subsequently promoted to the position of Assistant County Prosecutor Juvenile Division and prosecuted juvenile traffic, unruly, and delinquency cases. In fact, I was the first prosecutor in the State of Ohio to handle a Serious Youthful Offender case. It was the first case in Ohio where a juvenile received a juvenile sentence and an adult sentence, now commonly referred to as a blended sentence.
After my work in juvenile court, I was promoted to the Adult Criminal Felony Division where I handled numerous evidentiary hearings, protection order issues, and jury trials. I tried cases in the adult division for 10 years ranging from drug abuse, drug trafficking, elderly abuse, child abuse, thefts, robberies, kidnappings, sexual assaults, and murders. I had 100’s of trials and 1000’s of cases where I worked with different local social agencies, Lorain County attorneys, judges, expert witnesses, police departments, the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Lorain County Drug Task Force, the Lorain County Kidz First Child Advocacy Center, the Rape Crisis Center, and the Genesis House to name just a few.

Professional/Community Interests:
During my career at the Lorain County Prosecutor's Office I took a special interest in the Kidz First Child Advocacy Center of Lorain and became the liaison between the Lorain County Prosecutor’s office and the agency. Additionally, and due to handling a number of computer crimes against children, I was also the liaison between the Lorain County Prosecutor’s Office and Internet Crimes Against Children Organization. I have trained, taught classes, given speeches and seminars to professionals, groups, law enforcement officers, the Lorain County Guardian Ad Litem Program (Voices for Children), and have been an instructor at the Lorain County Community College Police Academy amongst others.
Throughout my career, I have spoken to many high school classes and have mentored young women, especially due to that fact I was a young mother and the first person in my family to go to college.
Additionally, I have taken on leadership roles in the legal community and held the positions of Lorain County Bar Association President, Vice President, Secretary & Treasurer. For years I worked closely with the bar association where I formed the Women’s Committee in 2010. One of the many purposes of forming the Women’s Committee was for local attorneys to give back to the community. As the chairwoman of the Women’s Committee, our group spear-headed the charitable functions of the bar association, including toy drives and food drives. Prior to my judgeship, I was also a member of the Lorain County Domestic Violence Task Force.

Question 1
List your judicial experience (courts and years)
2017- current:Lorain County Domestic Relations Court
Question 2
What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?
In addition to my experience as the current sitting judge for the last 5 1/2 years, my previous professional qualifications and education, my life experiences have definitely helped me become the best family court judge I could possibly be. I am the proud mother of three children, Dennis, Devin, and Gracie and am married to my biggest fan and supporter, Dan Strohsack. My oldest son, Dennis (Rios) is 29 years old, a graduate from Amherst High School and former military. I also have a 22 year- old son, Devin (Rios), who is my talented wrestler and baseball player and also graduated from Amherst Steele High School, and the princess of the family, is our 12 year- old daughter, Gracie (Strohsack). Yes, we have a myriad of last names! This is my second marriage and I am lucky to have both of them in my corner. My husband, Dan Strohsack, is a recently retired Lorain County Deputy Sheriff, awesome husband, dad and step-dad.
My growing blended family, raising three children, and dealing with the real issues of parenting, divorce, and step-parenting has definitely given me a personal insight into issues that I deal with and rule on in Domestic Relations Court. I have definitely utilized my own life experiences to relate to the families who come into my courtroom.
Question 3
Why are you running for this particular court seat?
Simply put, to make a difference. I truly care about my community and have worked tirelessly to help make the community and the court a better place.
