Question 2
What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?
Prior to taking my position as a magistrate in 2013, I owned and operated a law practice in Geauga County for 17 years. My practice consisted of appearing and handling cases throughout Northeast Ohio in Common Pleas, Municipal, Appellate and Federal Courts. I observed the practices of many judges in many different courts, how they handled their caseloads and ran their courtrooms. I learned from those experiences and have applied the more effective practices in my courtroom, first as a magistrate and now as a judge. My law practice was a general practice where I handled cases in numerous areas of the law including criminal, civil, personal injury, real estate, domestic relations, bankruptcy, civil protection orders, probate, juvenile, small business and estate planning. The knowledge and experience I gained from my years in general practice have served me well as these are the types of cases that come before me. In running my own law practice I gained experience that I have used in running the business and human resources sides of the court.

Question 3
Why are you running for this particular court seat?
I have held my seat since January of 2017. I believe I have made a positive impact in the court and in our community. Notably, I started the New Leaf Program, Geauga County's first drug court program. Serving as the Drug Court Judge has been immensely rewarding. Our program was one of 11 programs in the country to selected to serve as a National Mentor Court. During my term we have improved and increased our mediation programs and services, to help litigants reach fair settlements without incurring the cost of litigation. During my term the court has finished its transition to electronic filing, which has helped make our court docket more accessible to the public, and reduced time and cost for parties and their attorneys. The other general division judge and I lead the court and its staff through the difficult time period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through virtual hearings and creative scheduling of staff, we maintained a safe environment without closing the court a single day. During this time I maintained my docket with minimal delays. I believe that my position allows me to serve my community and make a positive impact on on the parties and attorneys that appear in front of me, which in turn makes a positive impact on the entire community.
