Question 1

List your judicial experience (courts and years)

Judge, Warren County Court, Lebanon, OH (2013 - present). I am seeking re-election for the judgeship I have held since May 2013. I was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2013, ran in the next general election (2014) for the remainder of the unexpired term, and ran in 2016 for a full six-year term that is set to expire in December 2022. I am running for the six-year term that begins in January 2023. After 36 years of combined active and reserve service, I retired as a Colonel from the United States Army Reserve in January 2018. While I was in the Army, I served as a circuit judge in the United States Army Trial Judiciary\'s First and Second Judicial Districts (2013-16), and was detailed and presided over cases convened at Fort Stewart, GA, Fort Bragg, NC, and Fort Knox, KY.

Question 2

What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?

I was admitted to the Ohio bar in November 1987. During my 35 years of legal practice, I have prosecuted and defended criminal cases, and I have represented both plaintiffs and defendants in civil lawsuits. As a member of the Dayton Bar Association, I volunteered for the pro bono appointment list and served as counsel for indigent clients while I was engaged in the private practice of law. Prior to taking the bench, I served as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney in the Warren County Prosecutor\'s Office for 15 years, prosecuting felonies and misdemeanors in the criminal division and representing county agencies in the civil division. During my 36-year Army career, I completed several command and leadership training courses, and served in many leadership positions. My senior leadership experience includes service as Director of Legal Services, Deputy Commander, and Commander of the 9th Legal Support Organization in Whitehall, OH, and Commander of the 8th Legal Operations Detachment in Independence, MO. I also served as Staff Judge Advocate for the United States Army Reserve Command in Gaithersburg, MD, and Chief of Military Justice and Staff Judge Advocate of the XVIII Airborne Corps in Fort Bragg, NC. These courses and leadership/command positions provide me with a wide variety of decision-making and problem-solving skills and experiences, and enable me to communicate and work effectively with superiors, peers, and subordinates from all walks of life. Finally, as a career public servant, I understand the complexities and nuances of public service.

Question 3

Why are you running for this particular court seat?

I believe my experience, qualifications, judicial temperament, high moral character, and past record of service as judge qualify me for re-election to the position sought. I have been honored to hold the position of judge, and I aim to continue maintaining unquestionable integrity and impartiality, supervising and managing an effective court staff, improving the efficiency and quality of court services, applying the law as written, and serving the citizens of Warren County.
