Question 1
List your judicial experience (courts and years)
None. I served two years as a judicial law clerk to Hon. Roger L. Kline, Fourth District Court of Appeals.
Question 2
What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?
My broad background has prepared me for the wide range of cases brought before the court of appeals. Foremost, I worked for an appellate judge, aiding the judge in reviewing appeals brought before that court. That experience prepared me to handle the types of cases brought before the appellate court. As an assistant prosecuting attorney, I have prosecuted wrongdoers. As an assistant public defender, I have represented clients facing severe punishment. I have learned to handle these serious matters with professionalism and competence. As a judge, I will bring that experience and a deep understanding of criminal matters with me.
In addition, as an assistant prosecuting attorney, I represented local governments in civil matters, and advised elected officials and various boards about legal questions, including areas such employment law, contracts, land use, civil rights, and elections law. Prior to that experience, I handled a variety of civil cases as a solo practitioner and as an associate at a law firm. This broad range of civil and criminal law experience affords me the legal and personal qualifications to succeed as an appellate judge.
Question 3
Why are you running for this particular court seat?
Our constitution and republic are great gifts. I have deep respect for the constitutional order and principles established by those revolutionaries. As an appellate judge, I will ensure that the rule of law prevails and the legal system works as intended. This includes treating every person, attorney, and other participants with dignity and respect. Judges should be timely, prepared, and fair in conducting the court’s business. Those are attributes that I will bring with me to the bench. Our constitutional system only works when we are willing to serve those noble ends. So, I believe strongly in public service. Both my parents served as deputy sheriffs and imparted the value of service to me. Throughout my legal career, I have chosen to take positions where I can serve the public. I hope to serve the public further by being elected judge.
