Magistrate, Preble County Common Pleas Court, February 2019 - Current Magistrate, Seneca County Common Pleas Court, January 2009 through January 2019 Acting Judge, Tiffin Fostoria Municipal Court, 2016 through 2018
Question 2
What non-judicial legal experience qualifies you to be a judge?
As an attorney who practiced in Common Pleas, Juvenile, and Municipal Courts, I understand how important it is to give people the opportunity to be heard. Litigants may not always like the outcome of a proceeding, but they should always be given the opportunity to meaningfully participate in the proceedings.
Question 3
Why are you running for this particular court seat?
I grew up in Preble County and my husband and I returned home to raise our daughter here. Quality of life matters in the community. The Eaton Municipal Court has the ability to help solve community problems. I want the Court to create customized remedies that address anti-social and criminal behavior and help people deal with the causes, not just the symptoms of the behavior. We need to address the cases involving drug addiction by referring offenders to treatment programs and make sure that they are participating in the program, to address the underlying issues giving rise to the defendants' continued drug use. We need to improve the court's response to domestic violence, increase offender accountability, and enhance victim safety. The court will conduct compliance hearings for all cases that have been assigned to probation supervision to ensure that all conditions of probation are met. On the civil side, I would like for the court to establish a mediation program that allows both parties the opportunity to sit down with a neutral, trained mediator, to amicably resolve disputes. There are many advantages to mediation including, but not limited to, confidential settlements, resolution of the dispute on the court date, negotiating a payment schedule to avoid collection, and an outcome that is satisfactory to both sides.
